Your First Visit<\/span><\/h2>\n

Your first visit to our office will involve an Initial Consultation with a Therapist. This initial appointment is not a therapy session. Initial Consultations <\/span>occur throughout the day and does not have to be a scheduled appointment.\u00a0 To avoid a wait time, please schedule an appointment; otherwise, we will work you in as soon as possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you are in crisis<\/strong>, you will be assessed as soon as possible, and you do not have to wait for drop-in hours.\u00a0 Counseling Services defines a crisis as thoughts of killing yourself, thoughts of hurting others, hearing or seeing things that others do not, a recent physical attack, a recent sexual assault or a recent death of someone you were close to.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each academic year, regardless if you have been seen in the counseling center previously, you will participate in a brief initial consultation to quickly highlight your current concerns and needs.\u00a0 This consultation might be with an intern or a therapist you have not seen before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
