Preparing for Your Search<\/span><\/p>\n

Follow these simple steps to prepare:<\/h3>\n

An important aspect of your job search is learning how to tell your story effectively. Your goal should be to confidently present your strengths to employers both in print and in person. Below are key elements of a job search to help you reach your goal and increase your confidence in the process. <\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Define Your Career Goals<\/strong>\n
      \n
    1. Look for positions that are going to help you achieve your career goal. Focus
      \non positions that are intriguing and companies you want to work for.<\/li>\n
    2. Remember to make your goals SMART- specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    3. Maintain a Strong Online Presence<\/strong>\n
        \n
      1. Tailor your online presence to the position you are wanting to be hired for.
        \nConsider how others may see your experience and skill set in relation to their
        \nindustry and workplace.<\/li>\n
      2. Refer to our LinkedIn Checklist<\/a> when creating and updating your LinkedIn profile.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      3. Customize Your Job Application<\/strong>\n

        1. Your resume and cover letter should be tailored to reflect the job you are
          \nactively applying for! Use keywords to grab the hiring managers\u2019 attention.<\/li>\n
        2. Submit your resume and\/or cover letter to CUHired<\/a> for review!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        3. Network regularly<\/strong>\n

          1. It is important to network with those who are like-minded and decision makers.
            \nWhen you connect with one person, you now have access to all the contacts
            \nthat individuals had made.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
          2. Participate in Job Fairs<\/strong>\n

            1. Connect with employers and learn about new companies you may be
              \ninterested in but remember to do your research beforehand. Have copies of
              \nyour resume ready and be prepared to share your elevator speech.<\/li>\n

            3. Leverage Current Relationships<\/strong>\n

              2. Create an Elevator Pitch<\/a> to share your career goals on the spot!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
              3. Ask for an Informational Interview<\/strong>\n

                1. A 20\u201360-minute conversation where you learn more about one\u2019s professional
                  \nexperience. Ask questions relating to how they got into the position, what the
                  \nposition is like, and where they see themselves growing with the help of their
                  \nposition.<\/li>\n

                  Unsure about a job posting?<\/h3>\n

                  If you feel uncomfortable about a job opportunity that you find, do not provide any personal information. Be wary if an employer:<\/strong><\/p>\n

                    \n
                  • Offers you a job with little or no interaction with you.<\/li>\n
                  • Offers a large amount of money for a little work or payment before work has been completed.<\/li>\n
                  • Requests personal information such as your Social Security Number, bank account or credit card information, copies of passport, license or other personal documents.<\/li>\n
                  • Requests you to move money from one account to another.<\/li>\n
                  • Uses a personal email address instead of a company email address, or the company name is misspelled within the email address (career@camppbell.eduu versus career@campbell.edu).<\/li>\n
                  • Posts a job with multiple spelling and grammatical errors.<\/li>\n
