{"id":27663,"date":"2020-08-10T15:26:20","date_gmt":"2020-08-10T19:26:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.campbell.edu\/?page_id=27663"},"modified":"2020-08-11T14:20:31","modified_gmt":"2020-08-11T18:20:31","slug":"deans-award-cphs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.campbell.edu\/university-communications\/publications\/accolades-legacy\/deans-awards\/deans-award-cphs\/","title":{"rendered":"Dean\u2019s Award | CPHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Dean&#8217;s Award | College of Pharmacy &amp; Health Sciences<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Award for Excellence in Teaching<\/em><\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Dr. Lillian MacNell<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-27776 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.campbell.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MacNell-Lillian-crop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/assets.campbell.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MacNell-Lillian-crop.jpg 447w, https:\/\/assets.campbell.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/MacNell-Lillian-crop-248x300.jpg 248w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Dr. Lillian MacNell received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies and her\u00b7 Master of Arts in Applied Sociology from the University of Central Florida, and a PhD in Sociology from North Carolina State University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MacNell joined Campbell University in July 2016 in the College of Pharmacy &amp; Health Sciences&#8217; Public Health program. As a teacher, MacNell has taken on a substantial teaching load and serves an\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">important role in curriculum development for the program. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She has developed courses including\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">popular electives on nutrition and food security. Her courses are evaluated at a very high level by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">students, and her advising of student capstone projects often results in students presenting at\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">conferences. She has been innovative in designing learning activities and assessments, exploring shared assignments, as well as creative immersive role plays.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the area of education-related service, MacNell is a valuable and willing contributor to the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">department, the college, the university and to the broader community. Within the department, she has been asked to provide curricular leadership in a variety of areas as the department earned accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health. She has also worked tirelessly to develop the curricular framework for the proposed Bachelor of Science in Public Health. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Within the College of Pharmacy &amp;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Health Sciences, MacNell has been an important part of the Faculty Development Committee and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the lnterprofessional Education {IPE) Committee, as well as providing leadership on a wide-range of IPE activities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a broader context, MacNell is a respected leader on issues of environmental justice and food justice in ways that embody the ethics of the program and the values of the coursework.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. MacNell is a reliable, hardworking, effective, and inspiring educational leader. Students enjoy her\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">classes, colleagues enjoy collaborating with her, and her intellect and work ethic have helped to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">transform the Public Health program&#8217;s approach to many aspects of teaching and learning. Her<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem\">\u00a0contributions to the Public Health program have been critical to the department&#8217;s success,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and she exemplifies excellence in all that she brings to teaching. She is an exemplary example of the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">qualities recognized by the Dean&#8217;s Award for Excellence in Teaching for the College of Pharmacy &amp;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Health Sciences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Dr. Michael Adams,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Dean, College of Pharmacy &amp;
