We also consider the extracurricular activities, community involvement, and a student’s potential to contribute positively to the Campbell campus environment. Applicants are encouraged to pursue a rigorous program of study throughout their four years of high school. For transfers, previous college work is the primary factor.

Campbell requires incoming students to have taken the following courses as part of their high school curriculum:

High School Course Requirements

Subject Area

Number of Credits

English

4

College-Prep Math (must have Algebra II and Geometry)

3

Social Sciences (one must be US History)

2

Natural Sciences (one must be a laboratory science)

2

Foreign Language (recommended but not required)

2

Campbell recommends taking 2 credit hours of a foreign language in high school. Although they currently make up a small portion of the applicant pool, applications from home schooled students continue to increase. We recognize that your experience as a home schooled student will be somewhat different from students in traditional schools. We’ll look at your academic record and non-academic interests and commitments within the context of your particular home school curriculum and experience. We understand that for many home schooled students there is not as clear a distinction between academic and non-academic activities as there might be for students in a traditional high school.

The more you can document for us and describe what you have done during your high school years, academically and otherwise, the better. Feel free to go beyond the questions on our application forms if they don’t cover everything you think is important for us to know. There may also be questions that simply don’t apply in the case of a home schooled student. You and others completing forms on your behalf may leave those questions blank.

Academic Preparation and Transcript for Home Schooled Students

In general, we look for students who have challenged themselves with rigorous study in a range of academic areas during their high school years, but the exact course of study varies among our successful applicants. Please provide us with detailed information about the academic program you have pursued. If you are not able to provide a traditional transcript of course grades, include an outline of your high school curriculum. If you have taken any courses at a school, college, online or by correspondence, please be sure to have official transcripts sent to the Campbell Admissions Office.

Non-Traditional Admission Requirements

The Undergraduate Transfer Admissions Office will handle the applications and inquiries for all main campus transfers students, second bachelor’s degree seeking students, non-degree seeking students (visiting), campus transfers, and returning students. This does not include Dual Enrolled or Early College students. Early College and Dual Enrolled students will apply as freshmen. However, the links on this page will help as you select college-level courses you wish to transfer into your intended major here at Campbell University.

Transfer Student Admission Requirements

An applicant is considered to be a transfer student if they have completed any number of college credit hours after their official high school graduation date.

Application

College Transcript(s)

High School Transcripts

SAT or ACT score*

*If it has been at least one year since an applicant’s high school graduation, we will not require the SAT or ACT score to be submitted. However, if the SAT/ACT is not submitted and the applicant is not transferring in credit that will be considered greater than or equal to our college algebra (Math 111) and or Academic Writing (ENGL101), the applicant will be required to complete our Math 110 and/or English 100 courses. The Admissions Office reserves the right to require transfer applicants who have not taken the SAT to do so. The determination will be made on a case-by-case basis and at the discretion of the Admissions Office.

In addition to the above requirements, transfer students must submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended. For transfer students, more consideration is given to college coursework than high school grades and SAT/ACT scores. The Admissions Office does reserve the right to waive the SAT/ACT requirement for transfer students, which happens on a case-by-case basis. In order to waive the SAT/ACT requirement, a student must be at least one year removed from his/her high school graduation date. Note: Waiving the SAT/ACT requirement may cause students to be automatically placed in developmental math and English courses. These developmental courses can only be bypassed if required SAT/ACT scores are submitted, or a student transfers in credit that is equal to or greater than our math and English requirements. SAT/ACT scores may also result in higher scholarship awards for transfers.

Campbell University does not require a minimum number of hours in order to transfer. Transfer students must be in good academic and social standing at the school from which they are transferring. A transfer student will be considered on the basis of their overall college record. Work attempted and/or completed at the two-year institutions may receive up to 64 hours of credit. Applicants from four-year institutions do not have a limit on the amount of hours that will transfer. These courses will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. In order to earn a bachelor’s degree from Campbell, a student must complete the final 32 hours at Campbell, and 12 of those hours must be upper level (300-400) courses.

A transfer student will be considered on the basis of their overall college record.
