{"id":661,"date":"2016-12-01T21:16:13","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T02:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.campbell.edu\/?page_id=661"},"modified":"2025-07-15T13:35:06","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T17:35:06","slug":"what-a-camel-needs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.campbell.edu\/life\/residence-life\/on-campus-housing\/what-a-camel-needs\/","title":{"rendered":"What A Camel Needs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are your lists of items you <strong>will need<\/strong>, items you <strong>might want<\/strong>, and items you<strong> shouldn&#8217;t bring<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Essentials<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A laptop or desktop with microphone and web cam capability (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campbell.edu\/information-technology-services\/it-service-desk\/technology-purchases\/\">recommended hardware specifications<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Linens to fit an XL (80&#8243;) twin mattress<\/li>\n<li>Pillow<\/li>\n<li>Towels, hand towels, and washcloths<\/li>\n<li>Toiletry items<\/li>\n<li>Laundry supplies<\/li>\n<li>Clothes hangers<\/li>\n<li>Umbrella<\/li>\n<li>Alarm clock<\/li>\n<li>Desk lamp (no halogen bulbs)<\/li>\n<li>Ethernet cable<\/li>\n<li>Trash can<\/li>\n<li>Medication<\/li>\n<li>Small vacuum<\/li>\n<li>Shower shoes<\/li>\n<li>Toilet Paper<\/li>\n<li>Bathroom Cleaning Supplies (Students are responsible for cleaning their own bathrooms)<\/li>\n<li>Soap<\/li>\n<li>Backpack<\/li>\n<li>School supplies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Items You Might Want<\/h2>\n<p>These items are not necessary, but they can make your life in a residence hall easier.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dollie or Hand Truck for Move-In Day<\/li>\n<li>Mattress pad<\/li>\n<li>Fan<\/li>\n<li>Refrigerator\n<ul>\n<li>3.5 cubic feet max; 1.5 amps max<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Computer<\/li>\n<li>Iron and ironing board<\/li>\n<li>Quarter inch nails (3MCommand strips are not allowed on drywalls)<\/li>\n<li>Dry Erase\/bulletin board<\/li>\n<li>TV<\/li>\n<li>DVD player<\/li>\n<li>Stereo<\/li>\n<li>Headphones<\/li>\n<li>Bicycle and lock<\/li>\n<li>Storage containers (i.e. under-the-bed boxes)<\/li>\n<li>Microwave<\/li>\n<li>Coffee maker\n<ul>\n<li>Must have automatic shut off<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Items You Cannot Bring<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Animals<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Except for approved ESA or a service dog, fish must be in a 10-gallon tank or smaller. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alcoholic beverages or paraphernalia <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bricks or cinder blocks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Candles, incense, fireworks, explosives, or any other flame-producing material<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cooking appliances such as toasters, George Foreman Grills, hot plates, appliances that produce a flame, etc. <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Toasters and George Foreman Grills are allowed in the Apartment style residential facilities, only in the designated kitchen area. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Decorative lights (i.e. Christmas lights)<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Battery powered lights are approved <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fully upholstered or overstuffed furniture (i.e. Couches, recliners, and futons)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Halogen lamps, lava lamps, compact fluorescent lighting (CFL), or lamps with a plastic shade<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hazardous materials or chemicals such as\u00a0 gasoline, lighter fluid, or any other item which may pose a danger to the Campbell community<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Items to be hung from ceilings, on\/from heating system, or sprinkler system piping<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nails larger than 1\/4 inch, screws, permanent adhesives \u2013 anything that could damage the walls<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Obscene materials<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Outside antennas<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Personal beds<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Previously live cut trees, cornstalks, leaves, and hay <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Removal of University-issued room furniture or relocation of any University-issued residential furniture is not permitted. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Signs considered to be University, government, or another\u2019s property<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Space heaters<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Extension cords are not allowed unless they have an on\/off switch <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Weapons of any kind, including air rifles, pellet guns, knives with blades over 5 inches.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Important Things to Note<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Smoking must be done outside and 50 feet away from the building. Hookahs, Vapes, or e-cigarettes are not permitted to be used in any residential facility.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Electrical items such as curling irons and hairdryers should be unplugged when not being used.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Microwaves and refrigerators must be plugged directly into the wall. They cannot be plugged into a surge protector or extension cord.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Power strips must include an on\/off switch and have surge protection. In addition, they must be plugged directly into the wall. They cannot be plugged into another surge protector or extension cord.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Prohibited in university buildings: Hoverboards, electric skateboards, electric scooters, electric skates, electric bicycles, single-wheel electric boards, and e-unicycles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are your lists of items you will need, items you might want, and items you shouldn&#8217;t bring.
